St. Barths is, without a doubt, one of the most exquisite destinations in the Caribbean. This small volcanic island—located among the Leeward Islands in the French West Indies—has 22 public beaches with shallow reefs that are perfect for snorkeling. The vibe here evokes a charming French countryside village. After all, St. Barths is a territory of France. A well-heeled crowd visits all year long, staying in hotels and small inns or mooring their yachts in Gustavia’s harbor. For my money, Hotel Christopher—with its secluded location at Pointe Milou at the northeast tip of the island—is one of the best values on St. Barths. Book a visit now because this recently renovated five-star resort won’t stay a secret forever.
Which Room to Book
Most of the 41 rooms at this resort have been renovated and the few that haven’t (ocean poolside and ocean classic categories) are available at lower nightly rates. There are four two-story buildings that house accommodations, which are all ocean view with either a balcony or terrace. Due to the hotel’s location on Point Milou, everyone can watch the sun set from their rooms. The 847-square-foot Panoramic Ocean Suite features an expansive private outdoor terrace complete with lounge furniture amid a tropical garden. Floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the suite have views of St. Barth’s neighboring islands.
Excellent On-Site Dining
St. Barths is known for exquisite French-inspired restaurants and the two dining rooms at Hotel Christopher are no exception. All guests enjoy a sumptuous al fresco breakfast buffet each morning at Taino, which is also open for dinner. At lunch, guests head to The Grill at the Mango restaurant for specialties like cold beetroot soup with ginger and coconut ice cream or grilled tenderloin beef with chimchurri-style sauce.
This gorgeous resort right on the beach offers plenty of reasons to stick around the hotel all day. The infinity pool is outfitted with plenty of plush lounge beds and a good mix and sun and shade. Spa Sisley offers an array of treatments with special emphasis on aromatherapy. The fitness room is outfitted with treadmills, cross steppers, and strength-training machines and pay-per-session yoga, Pilates, and aqua-biking classes are also offered. While you’ll find many lovely boutiques in the capital of Gustavia, the Linde Gallery right at Hotel Christopher offers a lovely collection of ready-to-wear clothing, sunglasses, and other souvenirs.
Visit for the Day
If you already have plans to vacation on St. Barths but are staying elsewhere, you can still sample all that Hotel Christopher has to offer with its Day Pass that comes in two flavors. The full day pass includes a lounge chair by the pool, welcome cocktail and lunch at Mango for 80 euros per guest. The Ultimate Day Pass, at 170 euros per person, includes those things plus a glass of champagne and a 90-minute spa treatment.
